Director
Mairéad Scully is the director and founder of the Kinsale Music Academy.She is a graduate of CIT Cork School of Music with an honours MA and BMus degree, specialising in performance. She also holds an Associate Teaching Diploma from the London College of Music.
In 2011 Mairéad established the Kinsale Music Academy as a new initiative in music education for the area. Native of Riverstick, and having attended Kinsale Community School, she was keen to broaden the opportunity for musical learning in her local community.
At KMA Mairéad teaches piano, keyboard, clarinet, saxophone, beginner guitar classes, theory and “Little Maestro” beginner classes.
Mairéad is also a professional accompanist to a number of Cork-based choirs, as well as for student grade examinations each year.
She is the Musical Director for the Ballinhassig Community Show ‘Carry On Regardless’ 2015 and 2016, and has been involved in Kinsale Community School’s student shows since 2008.
Each summer Mairéad works voluntarily as Musical Director at Coláiste Cúram, Irish College – preparing and conducting the students for performance in the Cór and Grúpa Ceoil.
Mairéad performs regularly as an instrumentalist for stage shows, musicals and wedding ceremonies – church and reception. She plays keyboards and sax in The Aristocrats wedding band.
She has performed in numerous bands, orchestras and ensembles over the years, playing in various venues throughout Ireland, including the National Concert Hall and Cork Opera House, as well as on international tours to Germany and the US.
In 2015 Mairéad was a County Finalist in IBYE – Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur – in the Best Established Business category.
