Laura Sheehan – Violin

A native of Cork, Laura began learning the violin at the age of 5 under Patsy Kelleher. At the age of 13 Laura moved to study under Colette O’Brien at the Cork School of Music, where she completed her eight grades.

Throughout the years Laura has played with many different orchestras including Irish Junior Youth Orchestra, Cork Youth Orchestra – with whom she travelled to the Czech Republic and Italy, Cork Symphony Orchestra and Cork School of Music Mozart players. She has taken part in various musical workshops around Ireland and England including ConCorda, Irish Association of Youth Orchestras and the Bryanstan International Summer School where she worked with many quartets, including the renowned Carducci String Quartet.

Laura graduated in 2012 from CIT Cork School of music with an honours BMus degree, where she studied under the tutelage of Ruxandra Petcu-Colan. She has since completed her SEIi Suzuki European Institute of Ireland Violin Suzuki Method levels 1 + 2, having studied under the guidance of the Irish Teacher Trainer Trudy Byron-Fahy. She is currently studying to complete Violin Suzuki Method level 3.

Laura is in demand as a violin teacher across the city and county. She has taught violin with Kinsale Music Academy since 2012, is teaching at Scoil Mhuire Primary School and Rockboro Primary School, as well as privately, through both Suzuki method and convention teaching.
