Siona Knepper – Violin / Viola / Piano
Síona began playing music at age 3 through the Suzuki method on violin and has enjoyed a passion for music ever since. She studied music at third level at the CIT Cork School of Music, graduating with a first class honours BMus degree. During this time she also enjoyed the opportunity to study composition and conducting, which led her to working professionally with a number of community choirs in Cork, as well as composing new works for the Cork New Music Ensemble.
In 2012, after moving to the UK, Síona took a post with the Nottingham Music Service teaching violin, viola and cello on the ‘In Harmony’ programme – a social music programme inspired by the Il Sistema project in Venezuela which encourages music learning through immersion in the orchestra and group learning.
Since returning to Ireland in the summer of 2015 Síona has resumed her teaching post with Kinsale Music Academy, as well as teaching with the Sing Out With Strings organisation in Limerick.
As keen traditional players, Síona and her husband Ian – a professional violin maker based in Cork – are regular performers in sessions across the city and county.
